Goal of the Month
[edit]To be blunt this is the men's team, not the women team. The men and women have two different pages, the men's team members who win goal of the month go here, the women team members who win goal of the month go there, unless it is some internal to the club thing and in that case why is it being included at all? - Okay, so first the bare facts. Arsenal have had a Goal of the Month competition since at least the 2012–13 season. I wasn't able to find a definitive first award because, a little annoyingly, their search results aren't entirely in chronological order for some reason. (If you would like to find out the definitive start of this award, you're more than happy to help me out there.) Since that point in time, only the men's team have appeared to be eligible for the award, with the earliest candidate from the women's team being for the November 2019 award. On Wikipedia, The GOTM has been included on the men's season articles since the 2017–18 season, while they have never been included on any of the women's season articles, despite one award in each season since 2019–20. Personally, I've only been involved in editing Arsenal F.C. season articles since the back end of the 2019–20 season, at which point Kim Little's award had been there for months, so when it came time to add Vivianne Miedema's award the following season, I used Little as a precedent, given that no "official" consensus had been reached, and I wasn't invested enough at the time to raise the issue. However, given that this change is on the smaller scale, I don't have any issues with removing all women's winners and adding them to their respective W.F.C. season articles moving forward, since it makes sense in the way you've specified. I would also prefer that such changes be accompanied by notes that indicate why there are gaps in the tables (something along the lines of "Only the men's team award winners are listed here. The women's team award winners are listed at 20XX–XX Arsenal W.F.C. season" ... it can be workshopped), at the very least as an AGF attempt to dissuade people from adding that information back again. Not entirely sure what you mean by "internal to the club thing," but assuming we're on the same page here, I'm not aware of any WP:FOOTBALL consensus that outright goes against their inclusion, and for what it's worth, the inclusion of club POTM/GOTM awards isn't exclusive to Arsenal, at least among Premier League club season articles. That being said, there isn't a whole lot of strict enforcement when it comes to the formatting of club season articles (have a look at Chelsea or Manchester United, for example), so such decisions seem to have been generally made by those who've had the most "experience" with their respective club's articles. If you do feel the need to set certain things straight across the board, feel free to start a talk discussion at the appropriate level (all of football, England, Arsenal, and/or season articles)! Cheers (and Merry Christmas) Benjamin112 ☎ 09:43, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
