Stefan Jankovic

[edit]

Should Stefan Jankovic be removed from the foreign players list? He’s not contracted for next season and it seems very unlikely that he’ll be offered a new one. Ausfootballfan (talk), 10:02, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No less likely than any other player. Patience and it will be updated when it is official that he's not re-signed. More often than not players stay without an announcement (hidden trigger clauses in contracts which aren't released to the public) than the opposite. --SuperJew (talk) 15:00, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah they are all good points. However when Tongyik signed a new contract, CCM put a list of contracted players at the bottom of the media release and he was a number of players who wasn’t listed. Ausfootballfan (talk) 16:09, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I saw on Tongyik's latest Instagram post where Jankovic commented on it and Tongyik replied with "thank u Brate, miss u bro." That could mean 1 of 2 things, he left Australia for the off-season and is due to return or he has left the club. Good chance it is the latter. HeyGuysItsMe (talk) 02:00, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like WP:OR. --SuperJew (talk) 06:34, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think he should be removed - his absence from the official list when Tongyik re-signed seems like WP:V that he is no longer in the Mariners squad (along with the other omissions - Pearce, Bouman etc.). FWIW (and this part is speculation/WP:OR), it looks like CCM won’t be doing the now-traditional “released players” article this off season - I suspect could be related to the fact they changed media guys so maybe it dropped off the radar. Removing Salary cap exemptions and captains section

[edit]

It is becoming more harder to source whether or not a player is considered exempt from the cap or not. Now that the new CBA has come in where clubs will have up to two marquee and designated players another couple of columns would need to be introduced. I am sure every club has marquee players but clubs do not need to disclose this information making it hard to fill the table with data. I am proposing we scrap the section. Thoughts? HeyGuysItsMe (talk) 02:04, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have been thinking about this too lately. Also wondering what to do with the page Marquee (A-League). Will post on the task force talk page to bring attention to this discussion. --SuperJew (talk) 06:32, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Tend to agree that we can remove the section - really over the last decade, clubs have been less and less transparent about who the various “marquees” are to the point where, it’s (1) hard to verify who is or isn’t a marquee and (2) less meaningful even where verifiable. Macosal (talk) 08:52, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I feel some were meaningful - Del Piero, Yorke, Ono, Cahill, Heskey, Fornaroli, Maclaren, Mooy, Heskey, Honda, Kone, Diamanti, Ninkovic (big deal also about him signing a under salary cap deal) to name a few. Also those famous for not being successful marquees - Piovaccari, Jardel, Gallas for example. --SuperJew (talk) 10:48, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This post has died down a little, hopefully I can reignite it. For this section to be removed, I say we wait until closer to season start and see if there are any further announcements from clubs about their marquee and designated players for the 21/22 season. For arguments sake, if it remains the same as what the table displays today then we scrap it. As for the other columns in the table, captains we already display under the Personnel and kits section, we would only be removing the vice captain column, clubs necessarily don't elect vice captains as seen in previous seasons so its not a big omission. Ensuring the Squad formation and salary cap section on the A-League page is constantly up to date can give readers a general overview on what clubs have access to in terms of exemptions to the salary cap, could even add a section on the season page that redirects them to this to find out more info. HeyGuysItsMe (talk) 02:30, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agree that vice-captains is rather iffy also. Regarding captains, we should make sure to transfer the references to the personnel and kits section (as is done on the W-League season pages). @HeyGuysItsMe: Are you suggesting to remove the section from the current season only? current season and onwards? or all seasons? --SuperJew (talk) 20:42, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely update or transfer existing sources over, good call. I was suggesting removing for this season and onwards, do you think there is much worth in removing from past seasons? HeyGuysItsMe (talk) 00:21, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Based on marquees being less announced and harder to source, I feel that's been an issue for the last couple of seasons, but it's hard to pinpoint an exact time (also some news releases mention players as marquees when they mean a foreign or famous domestic player without regard to the wages). It's a tough nut to think what to do with. --SuperJew (talk) 07:25, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is a tough nut to crack. I like your point about publishers posting articles that don't necessarily point out marquee wages when they talk about a marquee signing. From looking back at previous seasons, a lot of the sources now are either removed by their publishers or behind paywalls. Looking at the MLS which is another salary cap league, they don't list their designated players on their individual seasons but instead list them all on the Designated Player Rule page, I guess similar to the Marquee player (A-League Men) page. HeyGuysItsMe (talk) 23:13, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The fact Daniel Sturridge has signed for Glory and no source is crediting him as a salary cap exempt marquee signing should be enough to remove this section. Just goes to show again, clubs aren’t as transparent when it comes to their marquee signings. HeyGuysItsMe (talk) 13:36, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is a beautiful example of how media use marquee to describe visas actually. --SuperJew (talk) 14:28, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
How's this, they differentiate marquee and designated players with the latter being the ones that sign on a $300,000-$600,000 salary outside of the cap. They mention how some clubs are using it but not all, I would be surprised if the A-Leagues brought this subject up again. I don't understand why we have these exemptions but are hardly ever disclosed to the public, this is a big part on how our leagues work. HeyGuysItsMe (talk) 22:06, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-finals

[edit]

Did I miss where it is announced that the semi-finals will be played as a two-legged tie? DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 11:57, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I just realized, this is probably just a human error when it is repeated DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 10:32, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
