Misuse of table header cell markup?

[edit]

I have been trying to improve the accessibility of tables on this page for those who cannot see them. I notice that the header markup ('!') is used in some of these tables for totals (at the end of a row) and to provide a row of repeated column headers at the foot of the table. Although this page is deemed of relatively low importance, I suspect this also happens on other pages, but as I am relatively new here, I can neither confirm nor deny.

Is this acceptable practice? What impact does it have on accessibility? It is not something that I would do on pages written directly in HTML. More importantly, what would be the best remedy? CrazyBuilder talk 15:48, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've briefly looked around the Motorcycle Racing articles: misusing header cells in a similar way seems to be common (although sometimes the points column cells are simply given the same background colour as a heading cell). It also appears to be common to place a column of row headers inside the table, i.e. not in the first column. Surely this is not helpful either? CrazyBuilder talk 10:36, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
