Proposed merge with David Garcia (politician)
[edit]Appears to fail WP:NPOL and WP:SCHOLAR stand-alone article criteria (see also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David Garcia (professor)). Merging/redirecting to notable political race is standard practice in Wikipedia per WP:POLOUTCOMES; compare to John James (Michigan politician). --Animalparty! (talk) 23:38, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- Recommend holding off. It's likely Garcia will be the Democrat nominee for governor on Tuesday based on public polling. Based on the amount of local and national press coverage he has received this year, this meets the criteria for "Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage". - It is my understanding that it is not the standard for merging or deleting an article by comparing it to another, but Tennessee governor candidate Bill Lee's article was deleted because he is not elected. Billybob2002 (talk) 02:24, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
- Delete/Redirect: Non-winning candidates for office do not get Wikipedia articles just for being candidates. This article is referenced entirely to campaign coverage, with no evidence that he had preexisting notability for anything else. Campaign coverage is purely routine, because every candidate for any office could always show some of that. The exception is a candidate that reaches Christine O'Donnell levels of notability. Even if he wins the primary election (which is today) this article still does not reach the sufficient level of notability. He has to be elected to something first. - Keep: he's a major party nominee for governor in a competitive race (according to major prognosticators), and he's received a significant amount of national and local coverage by the media. Orser67 (talk) 19:09, 29 August 2018 (UTC)
- Keep per Orser67. Calibrador (talk) 20:14, 29 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose - As previous editors have stated, as a nominee of a major party for an important office like Governor of Arizona, Garcia should have his own page. - Bokmanrocks01 (talk) 05:14, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
- Keep He is the Democratic nominee in the race and is nearly tied with the incumbent in the polls (meaning there is a possibility of Garcia becoming governor). --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:21, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
