[edit]Regarding the date of this by-election, ok I take the point this might be the better approach at present, but will there come a point when we realise this by-election can't happen in 2017? PatGallacher (talk) 18:57, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- In about a week. There's a 35 day minimum lead time for by-elections in the UK so the 28th December 2017 is still a possible date right now. I prefer to use neutral and non-committal language with by-elections. Phrasing like "is expected" is better than "will be held" because the election hasn't actually been called by anyone yet and Wikipedia isn't a crystal ball. It is hypothetically possible that the by-election wont be called at all for some unforeseen reason, such as the early dissolution of the Welsh Assembly. There has never been another Alyn and Deeside by-election so I don't think this article is especially ambiguous to the reader - I made sure the clarify the possible date as quickly as possible in the text body.
