The result of the move request was: No move - did not reach consensus required to make move -- Callinus (talk) 15:44, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
- Sri Lankan parliamentary election, 2015 → Sri Lankan general election, 2015
- Sri Lankan parliamentary election, 2010 → Sri Lankan general election, 2010
- Sri Lankan parliamentary election, 2004 → Sri Lankan general election, 2004
– Per WP:COMMONTERM. WP:OFFICIAL name is 'Parliamentary general election, 2015'. When shortening, it is the word 'parliamentary' gets dropped more commonly. Google results are heavily in favour of the term 'general election'. News-outlets also follows the precedent. eg. http://www.srilankanelections.com/ Chanaka L (talk) 11:33, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose Sri Lanka also has public presidential elections, and the Wikipedia convention is that in countries with both types of popular elections (presidential and parliamentary), the term general election is generally reserved for elections in which both the president and parliament are elected together (eg Mozambican general election, 2014). The current title is preferable as it is more WP:PRECISE. Number 57 14:13, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose - As Number 57 has stated, Sri Lanka is an executive presidency and naming legislative elections as "general elections" will confuse editors not familiar with the Sri Lankan elections.--obi2canibetalk contr 07:21, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
- Comment - It could be use as redirect. --AntanO 07:37, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose per above; pretty clear-cut case. AntanO Redirect to what? FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 20:10, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
- New name "Sri Lankan general election, 2015" to existing name "Sri Lankan parliamentary election, 2015" --AntanO 04:44, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- Clear cut case of Wikipedians' blatant adherence to the policies and guidelines while completely go against common sense. We, wikipedians think we being cute, even when the government information website name it, general election. Sorry to see wikipedians reasoning triumph dogmatic adherence over case-specific intellectual rigor.--Chanaka L (talk) 08:38, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yup, the world is full of people without any common sense. The Department of Elections, Al jAzeera, BBC, CBC, CNN, The Guardian, The Hindu, Time and the UN all call it parliamentary election. What idiots. If only the world (and Wikipedia) were ruled by Chanakal.--obi2canibetalk contr 11:19, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- You are cherry picking, the same elections department refers it parliament general election as I pointed out in the nom. All your news sources are foreign. Care to cite local sources like Adaderana, daily mirror--Chanaka L (talk) 14:40, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is a global project and so it needs to reflect what WP:RS around the world are saying. Nevertheless, here are some "local" RS to chew on - Sunday Times, Daily FT, The Nation and The Island.--obi2canibetalk contr 10:34, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

- Oppose - As per official name of Department of Elections and rude comment. --AntanO 11:41, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- I'm sorry mate. I don't have anything against you.--Chanaka L (talk) 14:40, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- Comment - Changing one would mean changing all the past election articles, not just 2004 and 2010. I agree with AntanO, a redirect can be used till there is a better consensus on the issue.--Blackknight12 (talk) 02:22, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
