Potential candidates
[edit]How do we know a person is a potential candidate? What standard do we use?—Markles 00:53, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- The standard used for United States presidential election, 2012 is two sources in the past six month. I think this standard should be used here as well. --Hirolovesswords (talk) 03:42, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- OK. What's the reliability of the source? I mean: if a well-regarded writer says, "George Jones would be a good Governor" does that make Jones a potential? What about "George Jones is considering running"? Or "Ralph Smith has started a petition to draft George Jones"?—Markles 12:42, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
- The consensus on other pages appears to be that op-ed pieces are not considered to be reliable sources. Articles that state that a candidate is considering running and articles that state there is a movement to convince a candidate to run are okay, unless the candidate makes a public statement denying interest in running. --Hirolovesswords (talk) 01:07, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for finding that. It's a good standard to use. —Markles 01:13, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
