Assault rifle

[edit]

"A police official confirmed that the gunman used a shotgun in the shootings, and investigators were also determining whether a handgun and an assault rifle were also used."

I realize that this phrasing is probably just taken from the source but it is extremely unlikely that an actual assault rifle was involved as they are difficult to get and typically cost as much as a car. It is possible that an "assault weapon" was used but despite their intentionally similar names they are very different things that are important to distinguish between.

Hate crime

[edit]

It's been confirmed that it's a hate crime. http://abcnews.go.com/US/jewish-center-shooting-suspect-recorded-yelling-heil-hitler/story?id=23314978 --65.78.114.251 (talk) 21:49, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Paganism?

[edit]

I found it odd the article claims the shooter was a neo-pagan. It's widely known that white supremacist movements and the KKK in particular are Christian in origin, and do not tolerate heretical beliefs.

The newspaper pointed do does not seem to get their information from anywhere else, it just cites what the killer said about himself, so it seems unreliable.

In addition, anti-semitism, the motivation of this crime, is traditionally a Christian thing. Nazism was a strong Christian movement and throughout history, anti-semitism in Europe (and the US after it was colonised) has always had a Christian extremist character. I do not know of any religiously motivated crimes against Jews by pagans, at all, in any shape.

Because of this, I am rephrasing the article in a way that accurately reflects the disputed nature of the killer's claims about his religious affiliations.

If someone wants to justify using the current accusing tone, I suggest getting in touch with groups like the Odinist Fellows and asking them if their religion condones spree shootings as a hatecrime. Should they claim their religion supports this kind of crime, the phrasing could be rolled back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 145.97.198.179 (talk) 19:02, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
