Solomon Islands
[edit]The manual cited as a link does not list Solomon Islands as an entrant - it notes 11 entrants (not the 12 stated on the page). While this is surprising, why does the editor who states 12 teams will enter expect there to be 12 entrants? Jlsa (talk) 12:17, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
- It's an error mate. Sorry. The 'expecting 12' was taken directly from page 6 of the document downloadable from this page. Why not correct it instead of making sarcastic comments next time? --Pretty Green (talk) 09:45, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- 'Why' is not sarcasm. 'Why' is a simple question. If you are this precious, maybe being in public is not for you. As it happens, the Solomon's NOC sent their entries in beyond the cutoff date for the current manual. Presumably the final list will include 12 teams. Jlsa (talk) 11:15, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
Papua New Guinea
[edit]Are Papua New Guinea entered here? They are listed amongst the entrants, but not elsewhere? --Pretty Green (talk) 09:40, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, I've seen the error, Tonga were mistakenly listed in the Second Round instead of PNG. --Pretty Green (talk) 09:43, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- But why they got a bye to second round? As unranked team they are indeed ranked last (11.), but no explanation is given for going ahead four ranked teams. 82.141.67.203 (talk) 00:20, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
Australia
[edit]Shouldn't it be mentioned that Australia is the only Oceanic Team to participate in AFC qualification for the WC thus it is not listed here in OFC qualification? (plus sources) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.118.88.113 (talk) 02:34, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
- Australia isn't a member of the OFC - and haven't been for some time. We also don't mention that Israel and Chinese Taipei no longer try to qualify through this section of the draw either. Jlsa (talk) 02:38, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
OFC Nations Cup play-offs as WC qualifiers?
[edit]Although they aren't part of the qualifiers, the OFC Nations Cup's semi-final, 3rd place and final matches are listed as this by FIFA as seen on their website here: http://en.fifa.com/worldcup/preliminaries/matches/index.html This surely will have an impact on the "official" statistics of the qualifying competition (number of matches played, goals scorers...). So what should we do? Schnapper (talk) 13:54, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- The question was asked on the official OFC webcast. The commentators didn't think that yellow cards in today's matches would count in the third round. That wound suggest these results are NOT World Cup matches. However, they weren't sure. Jlsa (talk) 14:03, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- If you guys are interested, you can read the OFC Nations Cup regulations: [1]. Article 1 says: "The 2012 OFC Nations Cup shall double as Stage 2 of the Oceania qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil and where applicable certain provisions of the Regulations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil shall apply." So it seems to imply whole tournament, not just group stage. Article 34 covers yellow and red cards, and says that OFC is likely to ask FIFA to wipe out all yellow cards at the start of qualifiers stage 3, so the point raised by the commentators is likely to be moot. Anyway, I thought of a hypothetical scenario, let's say a player was sent off at the last match of the group stage, and their team reached the SF, so he was suspended for the SF. But if the SF were not a FWC qualifier, he would also have to be suspended for the first match of stage 3 due to FWC rules. That would be kind of weird since he would be suspended twice. Of course, I think we should just wait and see whether FIFA officially include the knockout matches in their FWC qualifier database and statistics. Chanheigeorge (talk) 08:36, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
Goalscorers
[edit]The goalscorers list seems to include all goals scored in the OFC Nations Cup, including rounds that were not part of the world cup qualification process (Chris Wood is recorded as having scored five, for instance, when New Zealand has only score four overall in World Cup qualification). Surely this needs to be amended? Grutness...wha? 00:55, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- Just noticed that this connects directly with the previously-asked question by Schnapper. Grutness...wha? 00:57, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- FIFA considers the knockout round of the OFC Nations Cup as qualifiers. 1. The goals scored are counted in the statistics: [2]. 2. A few players booked in the final (TAH's Angelo Tchen and Lorenzo Tehau; NCL's Judikael Ixoee and Marius Bako) [3], which are their 2nd yellow cards in the Nations Cup, are suspended for the first match of round 3: [4] (note that if a player receives his 2nd yellow card in the Euros in his last match, he is not suspended for the first match of WCQ). So I will make edits on this page to reflect this. Chanheigeorge (talk) 04:59, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
