tie breakers
[edit]chances are no one will look here first, but it is worth a shot. Dominican Republic and Turkey are not clinched yet, there remains a very good chance of a three-way tie for third place at two wins. There are four possible combinations (listed as 3rd/4th/5th): UKR/FIN/TUR, NZL/TUR/UKR, UKR/FIN/DOM, DOM/NZL/UKR.18abruce (talk) 23:16, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- Now that New Zealand won against Finnland and Ukraine lost to USA it's all settled. Ukraine is eliminated. There's only two possible combinations of 3rd/4th/5th including Ukraine, New Zealand and the loser of Turkey vs. Dominican Republic. In both of then we have a draw (1-1) in head-to-head and New Zealand first in goal average, the loser os Turkey vs. Dominican Republic in second (anyone of then) and Ukraine being the last among those three. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 191.255.48.69 (talk) 18:18, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Futhermore, the winner of Turkey vs. Dominican Republic is guaranteed second place and the loser fourth place. New Zealand is guaranteed third place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 191.255.48.69 (talk) 18:21, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Actually no, if turkey loses then nz +9/tur -3/Ukr -6--New Zealand would be 3rd, and sorry if Dominican loses then Dom +3/NZL -1/UKR -2--New Zealand 4th.18abruce (talk) 18:34, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Correct. My mistake there. No third place guaranteed for New Zealand indeed. We are only assured that Ukraine is eliminated, New Zealand, Turkey and Dominican Republic are qualified and that the winner of Turkey vs. Domonican Republic will take the second place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 191.255.48.69 (talk) 18:43, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

- FIBA's web site seems to disagree with the conclusion that Ukraine are eliminated. According to their official standings, UKR has a superior goal average to NZL and stands above them in the standings right now. Introducing the loser of Turkey/DR into that tie would appear to mean that UKR cannot fall further than 4th. (ESkog)(Talk) 20:20, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- That's goal average for all games, including those that involve teams which aren't tied with Ukraine. They'll sort that out once all of the games are finished. –HTD 20:24, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- We've advanced too many teams. As it stands, USA has qualified and Finland has been eliminated. The winner of Turkey-Dominican Republic will qualify, and two of Ukraine, New Zealand, and the loser will qualify, depending on goal average. pbp 20:27, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- FIN and UKR are eliminated no matter what. The 4 teams shaded green are going in... unless the DOM vs TUR game ends in a forfeit... –HTD 20:28, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- How do you figure on Ukraine being eliminated? They beat the Dominican Republic, after all. pbp 20:30, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
- Like this: Either result has 3 teams going 1-1 against each other.

If DOM wins: NZL 146/137=1.07 TUR 134/137=0.98 UKR 125/131=0.95
If TUR wins: DOM 138/135=1.02 NZL 136/137=0.993 UKR 133/135=0.985
UKR always ends up 5th, or eliminated. Loser in the DOM/TUR game would either be 3rd or 4th, depending on who wins, that assuming the game doesn't end in a forfeit. –HTD 20:33, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
