Overall: |
· · · |
- Passed earwig
Background
[edit]- "This was Arsenal's 23rd"... - Should specify that you're talking about 2014-15, as the "see also" makes this confusing
Addressed
- "Additionally, it was also Arsenal's 89th..." - this sentence has a comma splice, could you split it into two separate sentences (or maybe move some ideas into the first sentence)?
I moved information into the first and adjusted
- "it is the ongoing record" - This should be qualified, since it could (technically) become outdated in the future
Done
- "Additionally, they finished..." - This is the second sentence starting with "Additionally" in this paragraph- would be good to reword. Also, I think this sentence is clearer as "Additionally, they finished in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League and the fourth round of the Football League Cup"
I removed the first use and switched the sentences
- " the club also announced an" - This should be a new sentence since the current one is fairly long
Addressed
- "...chairman Chips Keswick, commentated on how" -> remove the comma
Addressed
Summer transfer window
[edit]- "...who left the club as free agents." -> There should be citation for the end of this sentence
Addressed
- "...former goalkeeper Fabiański had ended his contract." -> There should be citation for the end of this sentence
Addressed
- "...on 28 July, his transfer fee was reported..." * This is a comma splice, can you break this into two sentences?
Fixed
- "cost Arsenal £16 million.[25]" No need to add a citation here if it's the same source as the next sentence (WP:REPEATCITE)
Addressed
- "a temporary replacement" - I'm not seeing this in the source
Not sure where that came from
- "During the Summer transfer window," - "Summer" shouldn't be capitalized here
Addressed
- "(mostly academy players)" -> Is there a source making the claim that these are mostly academy players?
Although they were, there isn't really a source that summarises it so I just removed it.
Pre-season
[edit]- "where Arsenal Women also play their home matches" - This needs a source
I just removed it
- "...FIFA World Cup, the team won..." - comma splice, this should be a semi-colon
Fixed
- "...defeated Arsenal 1–0; Bradley Wright-Phillips" - I think this would read better as "defeated Arsenal 1–0, and Bradley Wright-Phillips"
Adjusted
- "hosted the 2014 Emirates Cup, an invitational friendly tournament " -> "hosted the 2014 Emirates Cup which was an invitational friendly tournament
Adjusted
- " in the first half.[32] " - not needed (WP:REPEATCITE)
Fixed
FA Community Shield
[edit]lgtm
Premier League
[edit]August–October
[edit]- " Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium," - The comma should be a period
Fixed
- "The match ended in a 1–1 draw with Spurs' Nacer Chadli giving his side the lead early in the second half, Arsenal responded with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's effort against a wrong-footed Tottenham defence with 15 minutes left in the match." -> The match ended in a 1–1 draw; Spurs' Nacer Chadli gave his side the lead early in the second half, but Arsenal responded with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's effort against a wrong-footed Tottenham defence with 15 minutes left in the match."
Fixed
- "Arsenal also lost playmaker Özil.." - This is a different enough idea that I'd put it in a separate sentence
Fixed
- "after the international break; the "Gunners" drew..." ->"after the international break, where the "Gunners" drew...
Fixed
November-February
[edit]- "A Sánchez brace..." - This sentence is a run-on and could probably be split in two.
Fixed
- "came against Manchester United, the 2–1..." - This is a comma splice; the comma should be a semi-colon
Fixed
- " was again critical of side" -> " was again critical of his side"
Fixed
- "Arsenal also later loaned" -> "Arsenal later loaned"
Fixed
- "To reinforce Arsenal's squad" -> "To reinforce the squad"
Fixed
- "Stoke City were defeated" -> "defeated Stoke City" (use active voice to match the other entries in the list)
Fixed
- "and the club dispatched Manchester City" -> " and dispatched Manchester City" as the list started with "they"
Fixed
March-May
[edit]- "...as they won 2–0 at home; January..." - This would read better as two separate sentences
Fixed
FA Cup
[edit]- "; the club had won their 12th FA Cup trophy" -> "The win marked the club's 12th FA Cup trophy, which made it the most successful team...."
Fixed, also split sentence
Football League Cup
[edit]- "..European competition; Arsenal left the competition.." - These are unrelated ideas that would read better as separate sentences
Fixed
UEFA Champions League
[edit]Play-off round
[edit]- "with the only goal coming from Sánchez who scored his first goal for the club." -> "with Sánchez scoring his first goal for the club and the only goal of the match."
Fixed
Knockout phase
[edit]- "in the 36th minute, they later came..." -> " in the 36th minute, and they later came"
Fixed
- "This was the fifth straight season..." - Needs to be cited
Fixed
Post season
[edit]- "was controversially voted..." - This section should elaborate on why the voting was controversial and/or who claimed that it was
I just removed the note
- "In the following season.." - I don't think this sentence adds much
Removed
Squad statistics/Transfers
[edit]- (MOS:DTAB) Tables need captions, which allow screen reader software to jump straight to named tables without having to read out all of the text before it each time. Visual captions can be added by putting |+ caption_text as the first line of the table code; if that caption would duplicate a nearby section header, you can make it screen-reader-only by putting |+ caption_text instead.
I used the sronly template for the squad statistics
- I'd recommend making at least the "Squad statistics" table sortable
Arranged, I also used the sortname template for all the names
- In the "Key" for "Squad statistics", use Template:Abbr for the abbreviations used in the headers
Done
Citations
[edit]- 61. Author's first name is mispelled, should be "Timothy"
- 80. Author is Josh James
- 122. Author is Metro Sport Reporter
- 123. Author is Jamie Sanderson
- 124. Author is Jamie Sanderson
- 129. Author is ESPN staff
All fixed
Match boxes
[edit]I'm going to spot-check some of these:
- Boreham Wood 0 - 2 Arsenal: LGTM (I don't see other sources listing the referee or attendance.)
- Arsenal 5 - 1 Benfica: Gaitan goal is in the 62nd, not the 61st.
Fixed
- Arsenal 0 - 1 Monaco: LGTM
- Arsenal 3 - 0 Manchester City: Cazorla goal should be at 21'
Fixed
- Arsenal 2 - 1 Crystal Palace: Report link seems to be dead, is there an archive?
I didn't have a problem accessing, it is the same as all the other prem games
- Everton 2 - 2 Arsenal: LGTM
- Chelsea 2 - 0 Arsenal: LGTM
- Arsenal 2 - 2 Hull: LGTM
- Stoke City 3 - 2 Arsenal: LGTM
- Arsenal 2-1 QPR: LGTM
- Arsenal 2-1 Leicester: I don't see the Hamer yellow card in the match report
Fixed
- Crystal Palace 1-2 Arsenal: LGTM
- Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal: LGTM
- Arsenal 0-0 Sunderland: LGTM
- Arsenal 4-1 West Brom: Walcott goal should be at 4'
Fixed
- Arsenal 2-0 Hull: Report doesn't seem to list timestamps for goals
So the BBC seem to have removed some of their live text reports. They're still available in full on the archives so I've switched them out
- Brighton 2-3 Arsenal: Report doesn't seem to list timestamps for match events
See above
- Arsenal 4-0 Aston Villa: Report doesn't seem to list timestamps for match events
See above
- Arsenal 1-2 Southampton: Report doesn't seem to list timestamps for match events
See above
- Besiktas 0-0 Arsenal: LGTM
- Arsenal 1-0 Besiktas: LGTM
- Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Arsenal: LGTM
- Arsenal 3-3 Anderlecht: Arteta penalty is in the 25th minute
Fixed
- Monaco 0-2 Arsenal: LGTM
I'm not surprised there are some of these small errors. When I first started the article I switched a lot of reports because people just cited rubbish. So the only real differences would be very small i.e. slightly different goal times
@Brindille1: Thank you so much for your time and your thorough review. I had nominated this so long ago that I completely forgot about it, so I am very grateful you took this up :) Idiosincrático (talk) 08:31, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
