MSG as possible site

There are reports that Madison Square Garden will host the 2013 East Regional, if planned renovations by owner Cablevision are finished in time. I would like to add it to the page, but I need a source for the reports. - Desmond Hobson (talk) 23:06, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Correct wording around first/second/third rounds

Misleading text

The article states:

"Defending national champion Kentucky was omitted from the field of 68, becoming the first reigning champion to be denied the opportunity to defend its championship in a season in which it was eligible for the tournament since North Carolina in 2010."

The beginning of the sentence makes it seem like it's rare or a big deal for the national champion to not make the tournament. And then the end of the sentence makes it clear that it's only been three years. California

Does anybody know why California wasn't a First Four team? As a 12-seed, they are ranked lower than the Middle Tennessee and Saint Mary's who played in the First Four.

The matchups of the First Four may be somewhat confusing: The First Four are games between the lowest four overall at-large teams and the lowest four overall automatic bid (conference champion) teams. Saint Mary's was one of the four lowest overall at-large teams, which the committee ranked as 46th out of all of the 68 teams and therefore had to play in the First Four. California was ranked as the 42nd overall and thus did not have to play in the First Four. It is very common for a First Four game to determine a #11 or #12 seed because the lowest four overall at-large teams usually rank higher than many of the automatic bids from the smaller conferences.

As to why the selection committee slotted Saint Mary's as an 11th seed in the Midwest, while California was put as a 12th seed in the East: There are various other factors that come into play when seeding the teams besides the overall rankings. In theory, the teams 1-4 on the overall rankings list would all be #1 seeds (the #1 "seed line"), 5-8 would be #2 seeds (the #2 seed line), ... teams 41-44 would be #11 seeds, 45-48 would be #12 seeds, and so on. But the committee also wants other things as well. For instance, if a conference has more than three teams in the tournament, the committee then tries to seed the teams so that they cannot meet until the regional final. In order to preserve these principals, the committee may move a team up or down one seed from its original seed line. Thus, in trying to fit in all these considerations, California was moved down from its true 11th seed to 12th, and Saint Mary's was moved up from 12th to 11th. Please use edit summaries

It would be helpful for others if, when editors process the results of a game into the brackets and record tables, they use the edit summary to say what was done so others don't have to figure it out from the diff or accidentally do it again (incorrectly for records).

For example, "Proc FGCU over SDSU 3rd round into South bracket and Record by conference table." (said the guy that couldn't remember to sign his post —[AlanM1(talk)]— 02:25, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Time position

The time and channel for the final was added, as usual, to the score boxes in the bracket chart. Then, someone came along and added the (wrong) time zone to the time. I wanted to correct and link the time zone, but this resulted in an ugly 2-line wrap. Because there was only one game, it then seemed reasonable to move the time and channel to the header, where the date is anyway, which is what I did (along with a cite for the unusual time). It was reverted back to the original version, without the time zone at all, which seems wrong. What's wrong with the way I had it here? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 19:12, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
