Merging Governor and Resident Commissioner election articles?
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.
I was thinking it would be appropriate to merge the article on the Resident Commissioner election with this one. My rationale is that both seats are included in the same ballot (Governor and Resident Commissioner), they usually campaign together, and are more or less considered the two top positions within the P.R. government. I don't think the articles would be much larger or different if kept separate also. Thief12 (talk) 19:37, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
- Not done and not likely to be done — The seats are different and belong to two completely different entities. The Governor is the head of government of Puerto Rico while the Resident Commissioner is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives (not even an official post within the government of Puerto Rico itself). The fact that both seats are included in the same ballot is irrelevant and without merit. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 01:58, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
- So does practically every other U.S. state and unincorporated territory -- especially those states and territories that only have one member to the House of Representatives, like Alaska, Delaware, Vermont, and Wyoming. They may campaign together, especially if they belong to the same political party, but they are treated as two distinct, separate seats on the same ballot. That is not how the rest of the U.S. election articles are organized. We have the gubernatorial election articles separate from the House of Representatives election articles. And then we have general elections articles like Puerto Rican general election, 2012 that provide an overview summary of all the elections held in that particular state and territory. Why should the P.R. election articles be different? My point is that as long as Puerto Rico remains under U.S. control, whether as a territory or a state, the P.R. election articles should be organized and categorized like the rest of the U.S. states and territory election articles.Zzyzx11 (talk) 07:41, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- It's no big deal. I just thought that there would be two separate articles with little info, and I felt it would be better to merge them. But you're right that it's better to keep them separate to maintain a uniform format. If no one else contributes anything new to the discussion in the next few days, I'll drop the proposal.
