Strength of the earthquake

[edit]

Note that the measurements of the earthquake differ from 5.6 (US Geological Survey) to 6.4 (Turkey's Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory) Source: http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=139603

The Bulgarian Academy of Science (BAS) claims that their measurement of 5.8 is the most accurate. Source: http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=139605

Another claim is that this is the strongest earthquake in the Sofia region since 1858 Source: http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=139612 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.50.145.118 (talkcontribs) 11:20, 23 May 2012‎

That last claim is dubious. The 1917 earthquake was with a magnitude of 5.2 but with an epicenter in the city center so the damages in Sofia proper were heavier (see bg:Софийско земетресение (1917)). --Nk (talk) 18:22, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
