IFA Premiership clubs in Europe 2010/11
[edit]The section should be removed from this article and migrated into a new article name 2010–11 in Northern Irish football which deals with all relevant aspects of the Northern Irish football season in general, similar to, for example, 2010–11 in English football. Opinions? --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 19:06, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- Agree, although it would need someone to create the other article. Mooretwin (talk)
- I disagree, it is only relevant to the IFA Premiership season, and contributes enormously to the article as it is a very important part of the season and would lose a lot of relevance in a different article.--86.41.54.151 (talk) 21:49, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- But one of the places is reserved for the Irish Cup, not the Premiership. Mooretwin (talk) 22:07, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Dear anon user, I agree that the participation of clubs in European competitions is of great relevance for especially the smaller UEFA members. However, the section seems a little bit misplaced in and out of scope of an article about a domestic football season. Furthermore, the performance of the clubs involved in European competitions has an impact on the spots of an association, not on its top-level league per se. Sure, the overwhelming majority of these spots go to members of the top-level leagues, but it is not unheard of that teams from the lower steps of the league pyramid have entered the competition, mostly as reward for domestic cup success.
- So, as qualification is not a matter of domestic league success alone, a section on teams of a particular association in an international competition is a perfect fit for an article dealing with a general overview of all footballing events within an association. For example, 2010–11 in Northern Irish football would cover not only the fate of the NIRL teams in Europe, but also detail the matches of the national team as well as a very short overview of the first few top leagues, in this case the Premiership, the Championship and the top regional leagues.
- By the way, your effort of putting the section completely into prose is greatly appreciated as season articles generally tend to morph into table and trivia dumps over time. --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 22:42, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
