Contested deletion
[edit]This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... I am building up previous season for Edinburgh Rugby. All facts are based on the League or the Club websites. If you know more about Edinburgh Rugby please tell me how it needs changed.--Chrispalmer10 (talk) 09:56, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
- To Chrispalmer10: I know very little about rugby, I know a little about Edinburgh from visiting it, but I know nothing about "Edinburgh Rugby". I came across this article simply because it had an ambiguous link in it that was detected, and I am in a group of editors who are trying to fix/eliminate those. On a basic level, I personally don't like sports statistics articles being in Wikipedia, as I don't see what is the value of copying stuff that should be in a sports almanac into Wikipedia. However, I am not in charge of anything, and I am aware that Wikipedia does have a lot of sports articles, so there must be a consensus of other that it is okay to have them...or at least to have some sports articles that meet some standard.
- About this article I can see that it is not encyclopedic, on the most basic level, because there is no introduction at all: it is not an article at all. Every article has to stand alone. I wonder, is there an existing article at Edinburgh Rugby that you could link to, within an introductory paragraph or two? (Okay, yes, because that is a blue link not a redlink.) What is Edinburgh Rugby, i still don't know. Maybe it is a team, a club, or maybe it is a league. Or maybe it is a general article about the history of rugby-playing in Edinburgh. An intro to this article should say something about what it is, a team or league or whatever, and it should link to that article. And, can you please provide ANY context? The 2010 season was the first-ever season of a league? It was the first time some team had a winning record? What will the article provide, and why is that of interest to anyone? Even if you provide a decent introduction, I don't promise to like the article. But as it is now, I am sure it is not worthy of being a Wikipedia article, and I nominated it to be speedily-deleted.
- You should look for some established Wikipedia articles about other leagues or teams. Please do, and perhaps provide links to them here, for discussion. Your article lacks stuff that the other articles have, I am sure. If you pointed to features in some established article, and you take steps towards building those here, then I and others might back off. Or maybe even help. :) --doncram 00:18, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
