Teams?

[edit]

I thought it might be helpful information to include another column to indicate the national champion's current team. Does anyone have any objections to this? Here is an example:

Country Men's Elite Road Race Champion Current Team Men's Elite Time Trial Champion Current Team
Australia Peter McDonald Drapac Porsche Michael Rogers HTC–Highroad[template problem]

That gives the team as much emphasis as the rider which is certainly too much for a national title with limited team support. How about:
Country Men's Elite Road Race Champion Men's Elite Time Trial Champion
Australia Peter McDonald (Drapac Porsche) Michael Rogers (HTC–Highroad[template problem])
As further thought, it would provide maximum browsing benefit to provide sortable columns. Without team names we would achieve this with something like this (using ({{sortname}}):
Country Men's Elite Road Race Champion Men's Elite Time Trial Champion
 Australia Peter McDonald Michael Rogers
 Colombia Oscar Alvarez Santiago Botero
This doesn't work with team name in the same field. So, to add an extra sortable field for team names, but not to overemphasise it:
Country Men's Elite Road Race Champion Team Men's Elite Time Trial Champion Team
Australia Peter McDonald (Drapac Porsche) Michael Rogers (HTC–Highroad[template problem])
Colombia Oscar Alvarez Santiago Botero (Indeportes Antioquia)
I'm not overly struck with that design though. All I think is we shouldn't overemphasise team and we should make the tables sortable. SeveroTC 23:35, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds reasonable. I've never dealt with sortable fields, so I may not tackle that immediately, but I think for now I'll use your first example. Malo0178 (talk) 12:48, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I totally disagree with the new design, it's a great confusion. The previous design was way better. LegendK (talk) 16:21, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Canadian Results

[edit]

Guillaume Boivin won overall, but was classified as U23 (Canada runs U23 and elite together). Cycling news (http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/2009-national-champions) reports Aaron Fillion (the top placed elite) as the Canadian champion, but the Canadian cycling association (http://www.canadian-cycling.com/cca/media/news/2009/0628_guillaume.shtml) reports Boivin. I'm inclined to go with the Canadians themselves. It would suck to win the race but not be the National Champion because you were too young.Malo0178 (talk) 03:23, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The more I read both sources, the less sure I am either way. It's really not very clear.Malo0178 (talk) 03:25, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm confused. I don't like the way on the Canadian cycling association website it talks differently about the "national champion" and "men's elite national champion"... SeveroTC 23:28, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
