Removal of section

[edit]

I removed this "Other media & formats" subsection from the "United States" section:

  • Joseph Cooper, Point of Intersection, Fact-Simile, Santa Fe, NM. 4.5” by 6.5” chapbook printed notebook style with binding at the top & a genuine leather cover. Limited edition of 100 copies.
  • Brandon Downing, Lake Antiquity: Poems 1996 – 2008, Fence Books, Albany, NY [This is both a collection of poems and an art book of Downing’s collage work since the two are often inseparable – 190 pp., four-color throughout]
  • Luke Roberts, “A bright bright DAY!!!” - Letterpress broadside on card stock, Punch Press, Buffalo, NY

None of these seem noteworthy enough for a page covering all poetry information and works for the year. The page is already 45K long, and yet doesn't cover enough of the world. It's hard to figure out what our criteria should be for inclusion of works published this year, but one place we can reasonably start is to remove limited editions of 100 copies, broadsides and the like. I think at one point in the past I added some tiny, self-published chapbooks, and I regret it. If the poet is major enough to be the subject of an article, perhaps a listing is worthwhile. Any blue links from the poet names above go to other articles, so we have no assurance that the poets here are notable, much less the works themselves.

Possibly we should include only works that have been mentioned in other chronologies or other books that examine poetry of an entire nation over the course of a year, or anthologies, or poets who have won awards, or in scholarly books, or works that have achieved notability in themselves. But almost all of that won't work for the most recent year-in-poetry pages. The standards should be pretty loose up until the point where we can't fit enough in the lists. We've reached that point here, where we have a huge U.S. list and nothing for many nations around the world. I'm not quite sure what standards to apply for recent years-in-poetry, but we can start by insisting that works of poetry be in regular books. -- JohnWBarber (talk) 00:00, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
