La Flèche Wallonne

[edit]

La Flèche Wallonne is not a 1.HC race, but designated by the UCI as a "historic" race (see here:[[1]]. It is, however, a "classic" but not a monument. So where do we put it? Any input would be appreciated. Malo0178 (talk) 13:26, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm... As I understand it, the description of races as Classics or Monuments is traditional rather than authoritative: I suspect the UCI don't want to officially give too high-faluting a title to races that they wanted to count on the rankings, but don't promote/administer themselves, so they invented a designation Historic to include all World Calendar races that are not on the ProTour. But the Paris-Tours, although usually described as a Classic, is neither in the World Calendar nor the ProTour, and the Züri-Metzgete, a "classic" by tradition, seems to no longer be an elite event. I would suggest a list of "Other World Calendar Events", and not try to present the list of Classics as having any authority: I wouldn't know where to find an authoritative inclusion/exclusion criteria for that designation. That seems fair to me. Malo0178 (talk) 19:29, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good move, but now we have lost the Paris-Tours: is it acknowledged as a 1.HC or a 1.1, or is it still left out in the cold as a remnant of the UCI/ASO dispute? Kevin McE (talk) 22:49, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, we still have it. It is under 1.HC, which it is according to the UCI schedule. Malo0178 (talk) 02:03, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oops: I looked at the edit summary rather than at the text, not realising that it had been copied rather than moved when it appeared in the classics list. Otherwise, I would suggest that it should follow the UCI ProTour list, not that the GP Ouest France should be considered superior to Paris-Nice, but because the heading "other" suggests that it is the remnant after other members of the category have been mentioned. Should the World Championships be moved down as well, rather than interrupting the 3 World Ranking categories? Kevin McE (talk) 07:30, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose we could put the World Championships first, although, like you said, I don't think they're more important than the Tours. We could put it after the "Other" category, but I think that would look odd. Malo0178 (talk) 13:24, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Flags in national championships?

[edit]

Do we need a set of flags to indicate that the Fooland national champion is Foolandian? It seems a truism to me, and therefore decoration rather than informative. Kevin McE (talk) 12:15, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, of course not. For people who like flags, there is already one at the start of each row. SeveroTC 13:18, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose it isn't needed. Do we want flags in the other sections then? Maybe we should just remove the national championships sections. We already have 2009 national cycling championships.Malo0178 (talk)
