When to dump the preliminary squad

[edit]

Our past practice has been to dump the preliminary squad listing before the series end, but I'm not sure if we do it once the game I teams are announced or whether we wait a bit. Any views or recollections ?-Sticks66 11:21, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

By the end of the series, the only players who should be listed are the ones who actully ran out and played. In a historical context that's all that matters. Preliminary squads will all be deleted. I say why wait? In the context of an individual player, it might be worthwhile mentioning in their article that they were selected for a preliminary squad. Especially if they're young or it's for the first time it would be relevant to the progression of their career in their article, but not this one.--Jeff79 (talk) 11:27, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Arithmetic issue

[edit]

The opening sentence say QLD have 13 wins, NSW have 12 and there are 2 draws. That adds up to 27. But it also says that this is the 30th series (hence 29 have been completed). Where are the other two series results? (Apologies for my ignorance if there is something basic I am missing) Manning (talk) 07:31, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think people have to stop treating the 1980 and '81 experimental matches like series. Remember, the internstate RL series has been going since 1908, and New South Wales won the 1980 and '81 series, leaving the third dead-rubbers as 'state of origin' experiments. Because at the time there was no state of origin and that's all they were: dead rubber matches to be experimented with which wouldn't have been if the 3rd match was to be a decider. Looking back from now it's easy to imagine the state of origin matches were more important (and to Queenslanders they were), but at the time, as far as interstate rugby league records are concerned, they weren't. I'd like articles to eventually exist for all these pre-origin series, and I don't like the way they've been conveniently ignored on wikipedia so far.--Jeff79 (talk) 08:01, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

18th man

[edit]

Does anyone else think that the 18th man is completely irrelevant if they didn't play and has no place in these articles?--Jeff79 (talk) 12:06, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
