[edit]With such a small population, why is there need for elections? There can be direct representation of the entire population (~600)... It could be the ideal democracy in a certain way. Elikarag (talk) 23:00, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
I believe, and I'll try to find a source in time, that there have been some elected Deputies to Chief Pleas since about 1922 Agingjb (talk) 13:57, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, twelve of them, known as the Douzaine.--Molly Mockford (talk) 19:05, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Descendant?
[edit]Is the Rossford John de Carteret who came in second a descendant of the de Carterets who were the first through seventh Seigneurs (until Lord Carteret grew bored with Sark and sold it off)? --Orange Mike | Talk 04:43, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, as far as I know, Rossford - along with the other current de Carterets - is descended from the original settlers, as are many other Sarkese families. I cannot, of course, speak for John Carteret's motivation in selling the fief.--Molly Mockford (talk) 18:30, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Waaaay too high popular vote?
[edit]If the population of the island is ~600, I'm curious as to how the popular vote greatly exceeded ten times that. 69.180.238.195 (talk) 00:09, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Because they had 28 votes each.--Molly Mockford (talk) 00:18, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
