Second and Third Round entries

[edit]

This page really needs a source to support the conjecture about which teams enter when. The article in its current state is claiming that there'll be an odd number of teams playing in the second round! For the sake of the knock-out format, there must be 12 teams entering in the second round, and 8 in the third. Not 11 and 9. My best guess is that Aston Villa, who have so far only qualified for the Intertoto Cup, will be starting in the second round. But I have no evidence of that, so I've slapped a couple of citation tags on the article. Bush shep (talk) 12:22, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Either that, or Man City, who technically qualified not by performance but behaviour. I looked up the last few seasons for precedent, and the last time we had a situation like this, there were 3 UEFA Cup entries and two Intertoto, and Aston Villa (the highest-placed Intertoto qualifier) were entered in the 2nd Round of the League Cup, to balance it up. Unfortunately, I couldn't with my brief research deduce why they were picked over the other Intertoto qualifier. Falastur2 (talk) 13:34, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah this is an Interesting situation, I suspect it will unravel itself as August approaches. May even be decided on Monday when the League fixtures are released. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.164.228.90 (talk) 15:09, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've done a re-write to explain the confusion. Bush shep (talk) 16:58, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fourth and Fifth Round Fixture

[edit]

I feel it'd be more accurate to say "matches will be played week commencing 10 November 2008", because most likely (if not certainly) matches will be played on Tuesday AND Wednesday. The same for Round 5. --Moonlover dl (talk) 07:51, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I thought about changing it to something like that when I was having a look at the article earlier, but I couldn't think of the correct wording. What you've put there looks great. – PeeJay 08:13, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quarter Finals/Fifth Round

[edit]

Can I ask why the 'quarter final' section has been changed to 'fifth round'?

Everywhere else seems to call it the quarter finals - even the Carling Cup website does.

But the Football League, who organise the competition, refer to the round as the fifth round (see here). – PeeJay 21:28, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Burnley v. Arsenal

[edit]

I know it will be hard for Arsenal fans to accept that they lost to Burnley, but can we please keep the wiki article accurate with the score of 2-0 for Burnley? DruidODurham (talk) 15:59, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spurs could be out????

[edit]

something in the Mirror today, Burnley have complained about Spurs as in teh 2nd leg they played Defoe when he was cup tied. and Defoe IS Cup-tied as well from the Portsmouth 3rd round game vs Chelsea (unused sub)

worth mentioning? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.19.1.50 (talk) 09:24, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Only if Spurs end up getting kicked out of the competition. – PeeJay 12:24, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
