Seeding

[edit]

Delete at least the men's seeds.....we have no idea what they will be.

Language

[edit]

"Rain, rain, again rain"... is this encyclopedical language?!?!!? --Attilios 08:47, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Day11

[edit]

A)Why are Henin and Roddick in bold on the Seeded player knock out bit?

B)Whats all this about Roddick winning but some post match rain delay meaning he didn't and then lost. If he won three sets he won, rain afterwards or not. I've not seen anything about it anywhere and unless someone can find a reference I will remove it.

Improving this article

[edit]

Claim: this article is a mess.

After getting a flurry of edits during the Championships, this article has become an information dump. It lacks any coherent plan, has too much narrative in some places, and too little in others. I've flagged this article at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tennis and would like to turn it into an example of best practices for a Grand Slam article before the 2007 US Open begins.

Before going to the chopping block, here are a few of the problems I see:

  • The introduction should be expanded. For example, it might deign to mention that Venus was the Women's Singles champion...
  • The "Timeline" and "Day by Day" sections are completely redundant.
  • The "Chokes and comebacks" section is random. Why are early round chokes and comebacks notable? If they are notable, they should be made part of a larger narrative.
  • "Prize Money" should be incorporated into the introduction.
  • "Day by Day" should be seriously trimmed, or incorporated into a more natural narrative elsewhere.
  • The "Men's singles" / "Women's singles" / ... sections need to be expanded. "Day 9" gets nine sentences, but "Women's singles" only gets one in tiny font?
  • "Seeds", is this section necessary in this article? It could be incorporated into the "Men's singles" and "Women's singles" sections, or removed entirely, since this information is available in the individual draw pages anyway.
  • "Media coverage". This information is irrelevant after the tournament, so it should be deleted.
  • I like the "Gallery" section. Perhaps it could expand?
  • The templates included at the bottom are good.

It's also incredibly biased in favour of the Williams sisters. Can somebody tone this down please? Not trying to undermine Venus' success, but her success was immensely fortunate and arguably more of a result of her opponents inability to close out matches when they had momentum than her own skill. 86.134.81.236 14:12, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
