This was a difficult page to write! finding all the results was amazingly hard - e.g. the Hong Kong v Korea result was not to be found anywhere! I eventually found the Hong Kong Rugby Update and searched through till I found the right date.. you would think all this stuff would be done by the IRB but no.. at least not in a timely fashion. Seems fixtures for 2006 have not been set in most cases either..

I think this qualification process is flawed - Arabian Gulf beat China, but they end up with a harder run to the finals - to qualify they have to beat either Japan or Korea, who finished 1st and 2nd in Div 1. China only have to beat Hong Kong, who finished 3rd in Div 1 - assuming that Sri Lanka will be easybeats. If it had been up to me I would have thrown the Arabian Gulf/China match (maybe China did??). Either way I doubt either team will challenge for the final two spots, but you never know...

Incidentally, since Arabian Gulf (AG) isn't a country I have used the flag of the League of Arab States (LAS) - not entirely accurate but the team doesn't have a flag on their website, and I figured it was more accurate than using the UAE flag (the team's office is in Dubai). On the AGRU site it states 'Rugby is played ... in the Gulf Cooperation Council [GCC] member countries of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates [UAE] while we have associate members in Cairo [Egypt], Beirut [Lebanon] and Jordan'. The GCC doesn't seem to have a flag either. The LAS members, according to wikipedia, are: Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Sudan, Morocco, Tunisia, Kuwait, Algeria, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Mauritania, Somalia, Palestine, Djibouti, Comoros, Eritrea. So not entirely accurate, open to suggestions...

Finally, the IRB summary of RWC Qualifying 2005 suggests that the Round 2 groups will play in November - however the RWC 2007 Qualifying process page lists it as March - May with Round 3 in Nov, so assume the latter is correct, at least till dates are set.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) does have a flag. Go to that organization's Wiki page. That flag should be used for the Arabian Gulf team. 89.120.193.125 11:38, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sri Lanka Easybeats ?

[edit]

I guess now you know why China had to play Sri Lanka. They are not easybeats anymore :)

mlaird 05:12, 9 April 2007 (UTC) sure, and well done to Sri Lanka - though the fact remains that as the winner of Div 2, Arabian Gulf should have had a crack at the bottom team from Div 1 (Hong Kong) - as it stands (and for what it's worth) the draw was flawed.[reply]
