Article relevance
[edit]I'm not sure of the relevance of this page. I know in other countries, there are pages for by-elections, but it has been the custom for Canadian by-elections to not have pages (just to merge the content into the articles). -- Earl Andrew - talk 04:06, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm strongly in favour of changing that custom, personally. ;) —Nightstallion (?) 21:41, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
I started the page because, it places all the information in one place, and makes it easier for research before and after the election. I'm wondering about how much detail to include with this article, as I see it more as launch-pad to other more detailed articles like the candidates' pages. This is not the first by-election page in the Canadian politics section, and I doubt it will be the last. After reading the projects page, it seems that there is no ban on by-election pages.Abebenjoe 22:10, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- While it hasn't been the first page to be created, it is the only page that exists, as the others have been merged. I do think by-elections warrant their own articles (only because other countries have them), but that means overturning policy, as we have merged articles before. -- Earl Andrew - talk 04:28, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- Well, let's start to do it differently from now on, then, and see what happens? We don't have articles on all previous elections for all countries, anyway (I'm just starting to do that), so it's better than nothing if at least all future by-elections will have their own articles. The possible Outremont by-election, 2007 would be the next candidate (unless there's a federal election before that). —Nightstallion (?) 22:49, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- I was thinking that maybe some of the earlier merges occurred due to there being only one riding holding a by-election, like Hamilton East 2004. Otherwise, I can't see it making too much sense to merge this article. I agree with Nightstallion and as a matter of course start implementing this kind of page for Canadian Federal and Provincial by-elections.Abebenjoe 06:15, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- Perfect, I'll also do what I can. (For instance, create articles on by-elections whenever I run across them. ;)) —Nightstallion (?) 09:25, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Candidate List order
[edit]Deleted footnote citations that did not pertain to the source of information regarding the unofficial list of candidates. Standardized it on the Elections Ontario citation and website. Changed candidate and party order to reflect both Elections Ontario's website, and the actual ballot. Ontario does not list the names of the parties on the ballot, it lists the candidates in alphabetical order. Obviously I kept the party affiliation, but still used last name as the organizing principle. I believe this the last change to the candidate lists, since nominations closed on Thursday, January 25, 2007 "The close of nominations is:...the third Thursday after the date of the writ in any other case (i.e. by-election)." (Elections Ontario Website, Election Calendar). So now, there should not be a large set of edits regarding this portion of the page...hopefully.
I'm still wondering if issues and important events should go into each ridings' section. Any thoughts?Abebenjoe 06:07, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
