Dates

[edit]

Which way round should we be writing the dates on these particular articles? There seems to be inconsistency. Is it day-month-year or month-day-year? Mark272 00:39, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't matter, as long as the dates are wiki-linked each user can choose the format he wants dates to be displayed in and wikipedia can handle any reasonable original format Bob Palin 14:49, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

transfer dates

[edit]

shouldn't all of the transfer dates be july 1 seeing as noone is technically going anywhere until then?

No, the dates are fine as they are. Gran2 15:52, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

transfers

[edit]

Is transfers for this page just for Premiership teams or is it for the Football League as well? arsenalwwerulz 07:32, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like it has been decided that it's Premier League and Football League Championship only. - fchd 15:03, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I'm afraid not. Just the more prominent teams, as they usually have the more prominent transfers. Although, in the unlikely event that Alessandro Del Piero decides to join Barnet. That will certainly be on here. Gran2 16:15, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

League winners etc.

[edit]

Is it consensus that the only league Champions etc. on the "xxxx-xx in English football" pages are the top four professional divisions? A lot of the non-league club pages have links to the season pages, but there is nothing of relevance to non-league football on the vast majority of them. - fchd 15:03, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure if you wantd to you could, I certainly see no problem at all. As you said, this is the whole of the English football season, so non-league should go here to. Gran2 16:15, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Split article

[edit]

"It has been suggested, not by me, that this section be split into a new article titled 2006-07 English football transfer deals."

I thought I would put this on here as the actual user who put the proposed split on the page, didn't add it here. So lets see, I think it is a bad idea. The section serves a better purpose on this page. All the other articles have there transfer section on the season page. Why should this be different? So I say no. Gran2 10:48, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I also say no. I would say no 45 times if it would work more. I think it really was perhaps just the one person who thought that. It really isn't notable enough to have a page dedicated entirely to the transfer dealings. That said, there's an article on the 2007 NFL Draft.--Dreaded Walrus 20:00, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Transfer Section

[edit]

I'm considering trimming this down a bit. It's already really long, and we still have the January transfers, and retirements to come! Any objections? Gran2 14:57, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It'll be a tough job, but I'd have to say go for it. Perhaps trim the less notable ones, for example David Sommeil, Alan Mahon, *cough* Vincent van den Berg, and only keep the more notable ones, such as Michael Carrick, Andriy Shevchenko, Michael Ballack, among others. The trouble will be with where the line goes between "more notable" and "less notable". Is there perhaps room for an article just for the transfers? I wouldn't think so, but if there was that would make things a bit easier. --Dreaded Walrus 17:07, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A separate article would probably solve the problem, but chances are it would be deleted. If it did happen we could just have to have a link to the page on this one. Anyway, the way I see it, transfers that arn't that importrant, ones that recieved hardly any media coverage and so on. I'll look through them and see which can go. Gran2 18:23, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I finally got around to doing this, these are the transfers I think should go, to cut the section down.

Post-Window Contract Signings

[edit]

Okay, just like the section above, but slightly different, Post-Window Contract Signings, I nominate we change it so that only moves that are permanent are included. I mean all of these loan moves are really insignificant, especially when there only for a few months at the most, I mean:

Come on! I haven't even heard of this guy! So, as I've said in the previous section, this page is getting to long so I say delete the following:

14 September 2006
29 September 2006
5 October 2006
10 October 2006
16 October 2006
26 October 2006
27 October 2006
9 November 2006
16 November 2006
17 November 2006

Any objections? Gran2 16:11, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, for the most part. I'd only include permanent transfers and loans of three months or more. HornetMike 13:39, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Possible improvements for this article

[edit]

Just chuck in a few ideas.

  • Split the manager changes from the events section, and make a new section. Possibly in table form.
  • Add a table chronicling manager/player of the months. Would give the reader an indication of who was on form in a particular month etc (with the reference articles detailing why).
  • Split the transfers into a sub-page. I don't especially like pages like this, but the list is massive. The benefit of doing so, I suppose, would be that some of the less significant transfers could be included on the sub-pagae whilst they couldn't here.

Thoughts? HornetMike 13:39, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed on all three counts. I've been thinking about making a subpage for the transfers for a while, but only for the size factor. As for the other two, certainly. Two really good ideas. Gran2 15:21, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Where do you think we should make the split date-wise for the article? Because we need to decide which managers changes are included in which season. I'd suggest 1st July, as it then - or close to it - that most teams report back for pre-season.

Re: tables, I'd suggest the manager table looked a bit like this:

Name Club Date of departure Replacement Date of appointment
Kevin Blackwell Leeds United 20 September 2006 Dennis Wise 24 October 2006

Yep, looks very good, I see no problem. Gran2 16:03, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Right, I'll start building in here and then transplant it over. Feel free to help if you want! HornetMike 14:01, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've done the managerial changes, as you can see in the article, most of them just need citations. I've done then in some sort of time order, but I was thinking that maybe ordering them in leagues would be better. So still looking like it does, just with the premiership moves at the top and so on. Gran2 11:14, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nice one. Sorry about not progressing with the player of the month stuff, been quite busy of late. I'm not fussed either way re: ordering of managers, so do as you feel! HornetMike 13:10, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Any thoughts about adding an extra column into the manager table detailing why they left? Think it would be a good idea or liable to POV (mutual consent etc. is always a bit ambigious). HornetMike 16:09, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
POV in my eyes. Gran2 16:18, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, every event, manager change and (with the bbc transfer page links at the bottom) transfer is now referenced. I think, although we haven't really ever wanted to, we are going to have to split the transfers into a separate article. Whic could, thinking about it, if we give it a good lead and make sure that any transfers not listed on the BBC pages is references, could have the potential to be a FL. But maybe we should leave it until the January window closes. But I wouldn't mind if it was done soon.

I wouldn't worry about waiting 'til the end of January to do it. Might as well do it now and not have to shift so much information at the end of the month. HornetMike 15:49, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Right I'll get right on it, I'm calling it List of English football transfers 2006-07, seem fine? Gran2 15:57, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There we go, all done, lead could use some improvement, and the overall looks of the page isnt perfect, but there we go. Gran2 16:42, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nice one, looks good. HornetMike 17:55, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As I have developed a liking for tables now, I have decided to restucture the transfers, (I saying this here as our discussion is ongoing and its as easy place as any).

Like this:

Date Name Moving from Moving to Fee (£)
2 May 2006 Grzegorz Rasiak Tottenham Hotspur Southampton £2m

Gran2 19:53, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right the player/manager of the month table is now done. I'll add it to the article later as the refs don't have sites or retrieval dates. I'm beginning to see that this page is basically a collection of lists, not that that's a bad thing. Gran2 13:16, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay its now in the article, any other ideas as to how to maximize this article. Gran2 17:01, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Van Der Sar

[edit]

I see there's been a bit of a disagreement re: Van Der Sar's injury. I have to say I don't think there's anything notable about it. The difference between this injury and the Cech/Cudicini one is that the latter sparked a media feud between Chelsea/Reading and was extraordinairy because of the extent of the injury to both keepers, and the fact it happened to two keepers in one match. I'd remove the Van Der Sar stuff, but in the spirit of fairness probably get rid of the Niemi injury as well - it looked serious but wasn't really in the end. HornetMike 13:38, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Totally agree. Injuries happen on a one-off basis all the time. It was the fact that it happened to two Chelsea keepers in the same match that made that one different. - fchd 13:53, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yep, I stop reverting it because the guy was getting a bit angry, but it isn't notable. Niemi and Ghaly (although Ghaly was unusual) should probably go as well. Gran2 15:27, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy over Tevez

[edit]

There should be something in here about this really, it was massive news and the repercussions are still ongoing, it should at least be mentioned 80.195.80.148 (talk) 15:01, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
