Casualties
[edit]Gday AR. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much info available about this. I've looked in Johnston's histories of the 6th, 7th and 9th Divisions the Bn is barely mentioned at all (he only mentions their role at Tobruk). A few possible sources:
- The AWM roll of honour seems to list 77 names although its probably not definitive (see https://www.awm.gov.au/search/all/?query=&op=Search&format=list&rows=20&filter[roll_type]=Roll+of+Honour&filter[related_units]=2%2F1st+Pioneer+Battalion§ion[0]=people);
- Maughan Tobruk and El Alamein p. 401 lists 2/1st Pnr Bn casualties at Tobruk as being 45 killed, 63 wounded and 9 PW; and
- Long The Final Campaigns p. 545 lists the losses of the Bn at Balikpapan as 18 ORs killed or wounded (NFI)
As this only provides an incomplete picture I wasn't sure whether to include it. I'll leave it up to you if you think it will add to the article. All the best. Anotherclown (talk) 23:33, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking. I've ordered the battalion history from the work library, so hopefully that might shed further light. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 01:09, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
