Name
[edit]Should it be noted that the company is referred to as 2/1st Independent Company in some AWM collection records? If the AWM has made a mistake in its records, I think this should be mentioned in the article (eg the 1st Independent Coy is sometimes mistakenly referred to as 2/1st Independent Coy (ref)). Also is this company the same as the 2/1st Commando Squadron? Lawrence, M.J. (talk) 02:51, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- The official history of Australia in World War II calls the unit the '1st Independent Company' (see The Japanese Thrust, page 396) and this is the most common name for the unit. It's my understanding that the independent companies didn't have the '2/' prefix until some time in 1942. Nick-D (talk) 04:58, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- @Nick-D Hi, do you know of refs that would clarify this. Just reading this, I noted that it appears to be a 2nd AIF unit but lacks the 2/ prefix and was puzzled by this. Cinderella157 (talk) 10:58, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
