Pseudo-hatnote

[edit]

@18abruce: re:[1]. The {{main}} template (or WP:HATNOTE-like text designed to replicate it) is not for use at the top of an article. Please incorporate the text elsewhere in the article. Thanks, Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 15:39, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Shhhnotsoloud: Sorry, I am a little lost here; your edit referred to a policy that was not applicable but I can see how the 'main' template is being misused. However, based on the content of the article your direction makes no sense either. Would a hyperlink in the lead make more sense maybe? What is the common way of directing readers to the parent article if they have not got there from the 'main' template?18abruce (talk) 15:59, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@18abruce: I'm sorry – over-hasty edit summaries. Perhaps the lead might read: "1999 IIHF World Championship was held in Oslo, Hamar and Lillehammer in Norway from 1 to 16 May as part of the 1999 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships. Or something like that – forgive me, I'm not a hockey expert. Thanks, Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 16:12, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, that makes sense. I have well over a hundred articles on my watch list that are done the same way, probably because the basic format of the pages are copied year after year. I can see from Olympic articles they are more commonly done as you indicate. Thank you for your help.18abruce (talk) 16:19, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
