Lead section / infobox

[edit]
  • Link Mw (Moment magnitude scale, in the lead and the infobox); faulting (Fault (geology)).
  • Consider amending Kopet Dag mountains to ‘Kopet Dag mount range’ - Kopet Dag should be linked.
  • ~579 should be written in full.
  • northeast of Tehran – the citations that follow this don’t seem necessary, as the information is not controversial.
  • seismically active faults – can be simplified to 'active faults' (linked).
  • Amend tectonic processes to ‘tectonics’ (linked).
  • One-hundred and seventy-three – consider amending to '173' (see MOS:SPELL09, not GA)

1 Background and tectonics

[edit]
  • Consider linking tectonic in the caption (using Tectonics).
  • Link geological.
  • The image’s caption should not have a full stop at the end, as it is a segment (see MOS:CAPFRAG). This issue reoccurs further on.
  • Non-specialist readers might appreciate an indication of when the events mentioned in the first paragraphs occurred.
  • Red XN Link deformation (Deformation (engineering)); thrust faulting; strike-slip faults (Fault_(geology)#Strike-slip_faults); Bojnurd.
  • 23 mm (0.91 in)/yr - ‘23 mm (0.91 in) per year looks better imo.
  • the closure of the Tethys Ocean. It closed when – consider combining the sentences to make this ‘the closure of the Tethys Ocean, which occurred when’.

2 Earthquake

[edit]
  • Red XN Link epicenter.
  • The motion map, whilst be interesting in its own right, causes sandwiching (MOS:SANDWICH) and doesn’t relate directly with the text of the section. The image is quite difficult to read and lacks interpretation, and I would omit it, and provide a clear guide for the link in External links.
  • The first paragraph appears not to be about the 1997 earthquake, and so doesn’t belong here. I would put the text in the section above.
  • It is believed to have produced up to 35 km (22 mi) of strike-slip displacement. - is this sentence referring to the 1997 earthquake? If so, the text needs to make this clear.
  • The second paragraph is hard to understand, because the chronology is confused, and the text is a mixture of historical facts and geology. Some copy editing needed here.
  • many years later – needs amending (see MOS:RELTIME).

3 Impact

[edit]
  • 106 in Bojnurd and 67 in Shirvan - ‘106 in Bojnurd county and 67 in Shirvan county’?
  • Link adobe; foreshock.

4 Aftermath

[edit]
  • relief works. Relief workers – consider amending the text to avoid these phrases being repeated so close together.

6 Notes

[edit]
  • External links should be avoided in the main text. Please cite the note correctly (see WP:ELPOINTS).

7 References

[edit]
  • Any chance that the Persian title of Ref 15 (Heidarzadeh) can be translated into English?

On hold

[edit]

I'm putting the article on hold for 2 weeks (you might be busy!) until 4 January to allow time for the issues raised to be addressed. Regards, Amitchell125 (talk) 20:27, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Amitchell125: Hello, I have fixed most of the issues in the article. However, I didn't change the 173 because you can't start a sentence with a number. I believe that that is all. SamBroGaming (talk) 07:53, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@SamBroGaming: Thanks, I'll cross out any issues that are sorted, and put a small cross (Red XN) to indicate where I think something still needs to be addressed. Amitchell125 (talk) 09:03, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Passing

[edit]

There's a few links still not sorted, but I'll leave them for you to decide about. Passing now, well done. Amitchell125 (talk) 11:38, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
