The mystery of the relegation of Hereford

[edit]

Hereford were relegated. But why? They finished on the same number of points as Brighton AND had a better goal difference. Yet Hereford - and not Brighton - were relegated. Why was this? There seems to be no obvious reason. 1. Brighton had a better goal average? No. Goal average had long since stopped being the measure used to separate two teams on the same number of points. 2. Brighton had better results against Hereford? No. That law only applied when two teams finished level on points AND level on goal difference. Yet Hereford had a better goal difference. Anyone know why Hereford were relegated instead of Brighton? It has, clearly, made quite a difference to the fates of the two clubs. 90.29.109.229 (talk) 09:31, 9 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
