Requested move

[edit]

Cabrini's penalty in the final wasn't saved by the German keeper. Instead it was a miss (right of the post).

Football World Cup 1982 → 1982 FIFA World Cup – following the consensus of naming the World Cup articles as FIFA World Cup in Wikipedia, and consistency of naming the major international football tournaments.

About Naranjito

[edit]

In YouTube video [[1]] cekebrating the twenty five years of the 1982 FIFA World Cup shows a interview with José María Marin the creator with Maria Dolores Altosanar. Marin says that Naranjito was the most ugly cretaed to date. Bicko2008 (talk) 03:36, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fix needed

[edit]

Can someone who understands templates well get rid of the <noinclude> in the semi-finals section. -- SGBailey 20:06, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Correction needed

[edit]

In first round, groups were actually named 1 to 6 instead of A to F. In second round, groups were actually named A to D instead of 1 to 4.

Another inaccuracy

[edit]

In the description of Italy Brazil, the Rossi goals are out of order. His first was a header after a cross by Cabrini, in the 5th minute. His second, around 35 minutes, is the goal described in the text (stole a pass, etc.), and brought the score to 2-1.

Also, Gentile was not a center back, but a full back. Back then defensive formations had two full backs (like today, and they were Gentile and Cabrini), one libero (or sweeper) (Scirea), and one centerback (Collovati). Gentile was used to mark the best opposing striker in the round of 3 (first Maradona, then Zico), but he played full back in the final.

Chosen in July 1966?

[edit]

From the article "Spain was chosen as hosts by FIFA in July 1966" - really? I would not have thought the process was that long. I'll check but does anyone know? Britmax (talk) 17:28, 23 March 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Apparently they chose the hosts for the next three World Cups in 1966. There's a link to it as well... Britmax (talk) 17:52, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The next three world cups after 1966 would have been 1970, 74 and 78. --MrBurns (talk) 23:40, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

France v West Germany

[edit]

Didn't know where else to put this idea. Do you think that we should create an article about this game? It is supposed to be considered one of the greatest matches in world cup history, and it is more deserving thatn some of the other articles like this so-called "Battle of Bordeaux," which many have never heard of at all —Preceding unsigned comment added by FootyStavros (talkcontribs) 23:23, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree there should be an article and we should link that article to that game. The marking of Gentile on Zico and Maradona should also be mentioned, he wouldn't last 20 minutes with the way he marked them in today's game ^_^.

Venues ordering issue

[edit]

El Molinon and Nuevo are in the wrong cities - they should be Gijon and Elche respectively, not the other way around. I don't have the correct capacities (which I think might be incorrect) so I won't edit this; someone with the correct data should do so. Nach0king (talk) 16:57, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Spain's fate in the second round

[edit]

After Spain had lost to Germany, Spain had 0 points, Germany had 3 points. Was there any speculation that Germany had to rely of the host country's sense of honor in order to advance? Spain could have let England win by way of "revenge". --217.226.76.220 (talk) 15:12, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
