Differences in stage distances

[edit]

In the table on the main page there are other stage-distanges then in the stage details (Main articles: 1981 Tour de France, Prologue to Stage 11 and 1981 Tour de France, Stage 12a to Stage 22).

prologue 6km versus 5.85km, stage 3 232km versus 232.5km, stage 4 77km versus 77,2km, stage 5 117km versus 117.5km, stage 6 27km versus 26.7km, stage 8 182km versus 180km, stage 9 197km versus 194km, stage 10 264km versus 258.5km, stage 12a 107km versus 107.3km, stage 12b 138km versus 133.8km, stage 14 38km versus 38.5km, stage 19 118km versus 117.5km, stage 20 46km versus 46.5km and stage 22 187km versus 186km. Most can be round-up's but there are also greater differences. I kan change the vallues but i need to know which are coorect or why there are differences.

I also found this differences in 1980 (in 21of25 stages), 1982 (in 17of23 stages) and in 1983 (in 17of23 stages). Before 1980 the distances are the same in the main page and de detail pages. I did not check 1984 and on but i am still checking.....

Some are rounded, sometimes the route was slightly changed, sometimes the 'neutral part' at the beginning of the stage is included. Don't forget that in 1981 it was not so easy to get accurate distances. Accurate maps surely existed, but everything would have been done 'by hand'. Nobody really cared if a stage was 117 or 118 km, so they did not invest that much time (and money) in getting the distances very accurate. --EdgeNavidad (Talk · Contribs) 11:25, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
