I'll review this article shortly. Looking forward to seeing one of the few tiebreaker games left at GAN. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 04:01, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
Here are the issues I found:
- Note that it was a one-game playoff in the first sentence of the lead.
- Done. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:31, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
- Add an extra sentence at end of lead: "In baseball statistics the tie-breaker counted as the xth regular season game for both teams, with all events in the game added to regular season statistics."
- Put it at the end of the first paragraph in the lead. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:31, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
- The background jumps to July, with nothing noting where the Red Sox or Yankees were starting from. Were there any projections for them for 1978? I imagine there had to have been pennant race predictions since both were great in 1977.
- Mentioned that the Yanks and Red Sox won the three previous pennants. Will add a bit more on the start of the season. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:31, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
- There's not much to say on the early part of a baseball season. The big thing about 1978 was that the Yankees experienced injuries (which I've now added) and fell 14 games out, but later rebounded. – Muboshgu (talk) 02:28, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- "However, New York finished the season on a 53–21 in their last 74 games" rm 'on a'
- Done. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:31, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
- For the game, anything on what went into picking the starters? Since Ron Guidry was on short rest, I'm sure you can find more to it then that. The Sox starter should be noted before jumping into game news as well.
- Guidry was awesome in 1978. More on that has been added. I added that Torrez was the Red Sox starter, and a bit more on him. – Muboshgu (talk) 02:28, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- The article brushes through the first 6 innings far too quickly. Before you know it it's already past Dent. Granted there's not as much to note, but the pitcher's duel it more than worth noting, which it at least was through six.
- Anything extra to note statistics-wise in the aftermath section?
- I noted the award winners (MVP - Rice, Cy - Guidry, Manager of the Year - Lemon). – Muboshgu (talk) 02:28, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- Paul Blair and Fred Stanley both link to dab pages.
- Fixed. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:31, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
Having read through most of the other tie-breaker articles in the past, honestly this one pales in comparison as is. It needs some beefing up to go along with my concerns. I'll put it on hold, and once the issues are fixed I'll give this a second-read through. In the meantime, read through a couple other tie-breaker articles and see what's missing from yours. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 04:13, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
- For starters I did fix up the references and I think the Fenway Park image should be an old one without the "monster-seats". –BuickCenturyDriver 02:21, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how much the image matters. I don't think we have that old an image of Fenway, anyway. I've beefed up the article. Let me know if there's anything else missing. – Muboshgu (talk) 02:28, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- Maybe getting one pre 2003 could be sufficiant. –BuickCenturyDriver 12:29, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Looks much better. I fixed an added sentence that I felt was a bit oddly worded, but aside from that I see no more issues, and am now comfortable passing this as a GA. I'd still like to see a bit more on the first six innings added, but it's not a requirement. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 03:37, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- Great, thanks. I was gonna break out my copy of The Bronx Zoo tomorrow to see what else Sparky had to say about it. I'll still do it. – Muboshgu (talk) 03:41, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Bucky Dent
[edit]I'm REALLY SERIOUS about having information about Bucky Dent being fired as manager of the Yankees in Boston in 1990. It was payback and retribution for Red Sox fans for what he did to them in the tie-breaker game in 1978, though George Steinbrenner was severely criticized for doing the deed in Boston. The Red Sox needed retribution for Dent's home run and he being fired as manager of the Yankees at Fenway Park was a sense of retribution. – SNIyer12, (talk), 18:45, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- Whether or not it stays at all, the word "retribution" is highly loaded and will not stay. To what extent is Dent's 1990 firing really relevant to the legacy of 1978? Not that much, I don't think, but I'm willing to look at some sources to see. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:51, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Aha, I see the word "retribution" was lifted directly from Cafardo's article.[1] – Muboshgu (talk) 16:53, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
