Star Wars
[edit]Star Wars is NOT the highest grossing film to date. Not even close.

Star Wars distributed independently
[edit]I don't believe this is accurate: May 25 - Star Wars opens in theaters and became one of the highest grossing films to date. The film revolutionizes the use of special effects in film and television production, and also popularizes the notion, even though Lucas was told by the Screen Actor's Guild that he must, of omitting any sort of opening credits sequence, and so distributed the film independently.
20th Century Fox distributed the films. Lucas got funding from elsewhere. It wasn't until the prequels that he made them "independent" films.
(I think). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.108.77.242 (talk) 00:52, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
