Shouldn't we alphabetize this list, either by album or by artist? -- B.Bryant

Dunno. I put them in as I thought of them. Alphabetization is a little boring though... Is there a more useful way of arranging them? Chronologically is another method, but finding out the exact dates of release is tedious/impossible. Somebody suggested arranging by genre, but that would be difficult as well, and I don't like to label things so definitively. It would make sense at least to put multiple releases by the same outfit together. Anyway, thanks for getting in on the game.

Alphabetically by artist makes most sense to me - chronologically would be nice, but, as you say, a logistical nightmare. It might be better to have the artist rather than the album first if that's what's to be done. On a different note: if I want to add premieres/composition dates of classical pieces, how do you think I should go about that? Do you think a separate header is justified, or are they better under "events" or what? I think it might be quite interesting to compare happenings in the classical world with happenings elsewhere (interesting for me, at least). --Camembert

By the way, it might be an idea to link these pages from the main year pages - to put a note saying something like "See also 1973 in music" somewhere on the 1973 page, I mean. --Camembert

Regarding the ordering question, I don't really think alphabetization is necessary. People aren't looking at these pages to find a specific album. It's not an index. The pages are (will be) a good way to get a glimpse of the innovations in music for that year, the various areas of music currently in development, and, by comparing with adjacent years, a sense of the trends developing or receding. So, I think the order of the albums should somehow help this. Maybe arranging them by style or genre? Although those kind of distinctions can be hard to make. ...Just throwing some ideas out there...

Some of the 1980's pages are now getting pretty big, so a way to order them would be nice. I still don't think alphabetization is the best way. Something more informative would be the way to go in my opinion. I know I've said that dividing things up into genres isn't good, but... I think it would be cool to see how things are changing from year to year in say, jazz, popular music, whatever. Trouble is, how do you define these terms? I like the idea of watching the trends in a specific aspect of music. The change from Herbie Hancock's Head Hunter's in 1973 to MMW's Combustication in 1998 is quite a remarkable one, but it's a path that one can follow. Ramble off.

albums released - alphabetical order

Oh dear, oh dear! After ploughing through empty talk pages for years in music since 1960 inclusive, and leaving my proposal (see below) on each of them, have just reached this one (number 13?). However, what's done is done - although I suppose it can always be undone - so I'll leave it here and see what happens:

Dear 60s and 70s music fans out there in wikiland (or is that wikispace?)

For want of an easier way of doing things, and following a question raised on another talk page, I am in the process of putting the albums released sections of the 60s and 70s in music pages into alphabetical order.

Whilst I realise this may not be the best or most popular way of listing stuff, I reached the conclusion that other than going directly to an artist's article page, it was probably the most efficient/effective way to find that album that we want to check up on and compare it to its contemporaries. By way of example, if we were to put the following album in artist name order:

• Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5 - Jackson 5

we would [probably] have to include it twice on the same list: once under each of the named artists, whereas if we list it alphabetically there's no possible confusion(?).

I'd appreciate some feedback on this, and in the hope that y'all agree with me (as you can imagine this is taking up quite a bit of my wikitime), I'm posting this note on all the relevant discussion pages. • • This whole series of Years in Music, albums section, is quickly becoming a dogs breakfast. There have been multiple copies added across the years. There should be only one album listed for one year, for first year of release. It's getting almost impossible to police because duplication is happening so often. The ideal way to deal with this issue is to list the albums chronologically, as seperate pages linked to the Year. Researching the date of release is not too hard.
