Notes on Roster Addition
[edit]- I'm working with the citations I added, plus some extra info such as "Final 1973 Cumulative Football Statistics Report" which helped me lock in the punter and kicker.
- There are some discrepancies between "Great Ideas of Western Man" and the game program I cited; guessing there was a preseason roster and then some changes later. If that assumption is correct, then it looks like the following were cut: Gary Bonn, Thomas Maguire, John Slava, Clyde Ligons, and Arnold Johnson (freshman DB). Johnson was the only one without a number so I cut him from the roster; everyone else stayed in. Looks like Curt Simmons was added later.
- Likewise, Brad Punko was listed as the punter in "Great Ideas of Western Man" (the preseason program), but "Final 1973 Cumulative Football Statistics Report" shows that Harhai was the punter.
- I'm not sure about the imbalance between defense and offense on the roster; I'm assuming that T means Tackle (and the template autocorrects it to OT) but it's possible that those guys could play both ways. The pro world had moved to two-platoon by 1973 but I'm guessing some of the old-school mentality was still here, so it's possible there were more two-way guys. (Woodhouse and Pyzdrowski are two examples for sure)
- Seems like the kicker and punter weren't perceived as primarily that, which is why they're listed as second positions rather than primary in special teams.
- I wasn't sure how to cite what is basically a yearbook and a game program. Input welcome. I have scans; if there's a way to share those and interest in doing so, I can.
