At right is the Formula One infobox which was removed from the article in June 2012. It was (presumably) preserved here on the talk page to make it easier to put back, in case it is ever decided to do that. DH85868993 (talk) 23:18, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Time Trails section

[edit]

Needs reworded. It states that Jim Hurtubise was the "fastest qualifier in the field"...which is not the case. He had the single fastest qualifying lap, but the fastest qualifier in the field was the pole sitter, Eddie Sachs. ShelbyMarion (talk) 19:52, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No, it is 100% accurate to state that Jim Hurtubise is the "fastest qualifier in the field." The pole position winner is technically the driver who starts in grid position #1. He is only technically the fastest qualifier on the first day (first "round") of time trials. Due to the nature of time trials at Indy (particularly during that period when there were 4 days of time trials), it was not at all uncommon for the a driver on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th day of time trials to post a speed faster than that of the pole position winner. There are several other years in which the pole winner was not the fastest qualifier, recent years include 1996, 1991, 1981, 1976. DoctorindyTalk 02:51, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, DoctorIndy. I know about Indy's unique qual procedures; I had simply misread his speed 149 as 146. It my darned dyslexia! ShelbyMarion (talk) 13:29, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! DoctorindyTalk 16:10, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
