Addition of "Cars" to Manufacturers Championship Table
[edit]Re the undo of my revision and the following comments "Those weren't the only cars to score points, missing the Ferrari TR58 and TR59 Fantuzzi, and Porsche 356 and 550. Also, @ is not a good symbol to use." I’m a little perplexed with the strong resistance to my efforts to add some extra data to the Manufacturers Championship table. Surely it is more interesting to read that Aston Martin won the championship with the DBR1 than to read only that they won the title. I acknowlege the previous point about various models being eligible to score points but there was usually only one or two models that contributed to a manufacturer's score in any given year. The Porsche 550 & 356 models may have finished in pointscoring positions in the ‘59 Targa Florio, they didn’t contribute to Porsche’s tally as only the best placed car from each make (in this case the winning 718 RSK) was able to do this. Also I can find no evidence that the TR58 added to Ferrari's 1959 points tally. Finally I'm not sure that I understand the objection to the use of the "@" symbol but given that it causes grief, what symbol would be appropriate? Cheers, GTHO (talk) 10:00, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- I understand your reasoning, and I know that specific cars are added in other charts, such as Teams Championship results. However, for Manufacturers championship, there could be a wide variety of cars that score points, although possibly not in 1959 specifically. Consistency is important, and including a list here but not somewhere like 1972 World Sportscar Championship season seems silly. And in a season such as that, there would be a wide variety of cars, and we'd end up with a rather large list of cars. This would also neglect cars that did not score points yet may have been major contributors to denying other manufacturers points thanks to a great finish. For teams, I'm fine with adding cars because most teams don't use a variety of cars, but for manufacturers, it would end up with a long list. If you add it to 1959, it should be added everywhere.
- As for the symbol, @ is not really a common symbol to use to denote a note. †, ‡, *, or ¹, ², ³ are really the best bets because they're difficult to confuse for something else. @ has could be read as "Cars at". The359 (talk) 17:06, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Which I think would add a lot of information to the table without taking up a lot of space. And it would be very useful for linking off to relevant articles about the models in question. Motor sport results tables without car details are to me like black & white television. Or is there a better way of adding this data to the WSCC articles? GTHO (talk) 00:38, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
