I'll review this. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 14:01, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'll copyedit as I go through; please revert any mistakes.

  • He made an unsuccessful bid for the Republican nomination for president: I assume this is 1948, but we should say so.
  • In the race for city commissioners, each party nominates two candidates and the top three are elected: this is in present tense; I think past tense would be more natural, and would fit in with the rest of the paragraph.
  • The Democrats' success continued in that races: something wrong here.
  • For the third seat, reserved for the minority party, Republican former city councilman Louis Menna edged out the incumbent Republican commissioner, Walter I. Davidson for the third spot on the commission: redundant "third seat...third spot".
  • a court whose jurisdiction is now exercised by the court of common pleas: we should avoid "now", but an "as of" here would sound odd. Suggest rephrasing to "has since been superseded by", or give the date if it's available. The same comment applies to the similar sentence in the next paragraph.
  • Some points that are not issues for GA, but I'll mention in case you want to fix them:
    • There are a couple of hyphens in the page ranges -- footnotes 2 and 15.
    • The sort order in the newspaper section seems random.

These points are all pretty minor; I'll promote to GA once they're addressed. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 15:06, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Mike Christie: Thanks for the review! I've made changes based on your suggestions above (here) which I think address all of your concerns. --Coemgenus (talk) 19:55, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes; looks good. Promoting. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 20:07, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
