World champion, title, series
[edit]We say in the overview NBA Finals that the term NBA World Championship Series was used thru 1982 and in 1985, followed by NBA Finals from 1986 to present. The lead sentence of this article, "The 1955 NBA World Championship Series ..." is the earliest appearance of the grandiose name in the annual yyyy NBA Finals articles (maintained 1955 to 1985, I suppose).
Notes on 1955 worldliness, so to speak
- ref#1, this article: " "City Hails Nats' World Title Triumph," Syracuse Herald Journal, April 11, 1955, pp. 1, 45."
- NBA Encyclopedia Playoff Edition
- 1955 NBA Finals: "Nats Win First Title of Shot-Clock Era" – 'world' does not appear
- 1955 feature by David Ramsey: "When the Dust Settled" – "chase the world title"; "greatest collection of basketball players in the world"; "world champions"
- select annual Finals Recap 1947 to 1956 – 'world' does not appear in this context (only WWII)
- Evidently there are signed features for 1951 and 1952 Finals and one on the Mikan's Laker Dynasty (perhaps no others for early years) – 'world' does not appear
(perhaps to be continued, perhaps also at Talk:1954 NBA Finals)
