"Priscilla Buchan" naming issue

[edit]

Surely it is in appropriate to say the by election "was won by the Conservative candidate Priscilla Buchan" and to use the name Priscilla Buchan in the article. Priscilla Buchan, Baroness Tweedsmuir of Belhelvie did not marry John Buchan, 2nd Baron Tweedsmuir until 1948 and so would not have been called Buchan at the time this election was held, but was known as Lady Priscilla Grant (or just Lady Grant) as contemporary press reports make clear. I would note that Dartford (UK Parliament constituency) does not refer to Margaret Thatcher contesting that seat in 1950 and 1951, but Margaret Roberts. Similarly Peterborough (UK Parliament constituency) refers to Helen Clark as Helen Brinton in contests prior to her marriage to Alan Clark in 2001. I also note that this is an issue in the main Aberdeen South article and will put a link to this discussion there. Dunarc (talk) 20:41, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
