1934 World Series in short film
[edit]There was a 1934 short comedy film called "Dizzy & Daffy" in December of 1934, in which Shemp Howard starred as a nearsighted pitcher who was a teammate of Dizzy and Daffy Dean. Dizzy and Daffy also appeared as fictional versions of themselves, and part of the film concerned a brief and fanciful depiction of the 1934 World Series.
However there were some differences between the movie and real life. For instance, in game 4 of the series, Dizzy was knocked out on the field when, as a pinch runner, he broke up a double play by taking an errant relay throw in the head, and had to be taken to the hospital for x-rays. Then in game 7, he threw a complete game shut-out. However in the film, these two events were consolidated into one. In the film Dizzy got a base hit late in the 7th game, and when trying to stretch it into a double he was hit by the throw from the outfield into 2nd base and was knocked unconscious. Daffy then came into the game in the 9th inning and struck out the side for the series win. Fgoron2000 (talk) 23:26, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
