Metropolitan Conference?
[edit]@Cbl62: I can't find any references to a "Metropolitan Conference" in 1923 aside from the College Football Data Warehouse. I did find sources for a "Metropolitan Collegiate Conference" in 1928 and 1929, which included a number of NYC-area teams, but not St. John's. See: Template:1928 Metropolitan Collegiate Conference football standings and Template:1929 Metropolitan Collegiate Conference football standings. Jweiss11 (talk) 19:10, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
- Our article on Metropolitan Conference (1923–1931) also states that existed from 1923 to 1931. That, too, is sourced to CFDW. CFDW is usually pretty reliable. I'll dig a bit when time permits. Cbl62 (talk) 19:41, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
- A search for "st. John's" and "metropolitan" in New York during the 1923 season turns up about 1,500 hits. Many of those concern the "Metropolitan League", a high school athletic conference. Others appear to refer to "metropolitan collegians". But I've only scratched the surfaced so far. Cbl62 (talk) 20:41, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
- Having found nothing in the contemporaneous record about a conference affiliation, I switched to independent status. Cbl62 (talk) 00:53, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for making the change. Yes, CFDW is (was?) pretty reliable, except when it isn't. Jweiss11 (talk) 02:55, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
