Grey or white
[edit]The article says:
- Billie the horse was actually grey, but appeared white in the primitive black and white newsreel footage of the era
The cited source by David Ornstein says:
- This year Inspector Chris Turner will mount Atlanta, a 13-year-old grey gelding, ... Like Atlanta, Billie was actually grey in colour but appeared white in the black-and-white newsreel footage of the era.
The article White (horse) says:
- "True white" horses, especially those that carry one of the dominant white (W) genes, are rare. Most horses that are commonly referred to as "white" are actually "gray" horses whose hair coats are completely white and may be born of any color and gradually “gray” as time goes on and take on a white appearance.
The article Gray (horse) says:
- Most gray horses have black skin and dark eyes; unlike many depigmentation genes, gray does not affect skin or eye color. Their adult hair coat is white, dappled, or white intermingled with hairs of other colors. Gray horses may be born any base color, depending on other color genes present. White hairs begin to appear at or shortly after birth and become progressively lighter as the horse ages.
So it's not clear whether David Ornstein is saying the horse was "grey but looked white in the bad film", or "the horse looked white but the technical name is grey". Or maybe Chris Turner said "actually Billie is grey, not white" and Ornstein misunderstood him. Perhaps Billy was technically classed as grey and that his coat was mostly white in appearance with some grey parts. jnestorius(talk)
Daily Record anecdote
[edit]I don't think the Record story about Scotland fans allegedly sabotaging an online poll about the naming of the bridge belongs on the article. I would perhaps change my opinion if it can be demonstrated that this story attracted more widespread discussion in more reputable sources. Can it? --John (talk) 12:18, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
