The series features in the Dennie Lehane book The Given Day, where he mentions that the war also caused the series to be played first in Chicago then in Boston, but no back and forth, to keep transportation to a minimum. The term Fall Classic (as in the first paragraph) is not what I would consider common parlance amongst casual fans, nor is it defined or linked earlier in the article.
