Vote figures

[edit]

I have removed the vote figures for now as there appears to be several major issues with them:

  1. For constituencies with more than one member being elected, the vote totals were divided by the number of seats available – this is problematic as (a) voters may not have cast all votes available and (b) it means the vote totals are underweighted as the constituencies with multiple seats will have much lower totals
  2. The number of votes for 'Other parties' was not calculated properly – instead of being the sum of of the votes for Other parties in each constituency, it was whatever figure was needed to balance the total of valid votes after the named parties totals were calculated (which would not have been correct due to issue (1). This in turn means the percentages will all be wrong.
  3. Invalid votes have been calculated by an unclear method that I am not convinced is correct.

I'm re-adding the vote figures. I'm undoing the dividing by the number of seats available, and as we've gone over in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Dees_de_Jong#1888_Dutch_general_election the 'Other parties' are properly calculated, because Huygens did not account for small independent candidates. I also believe the invalid votes are calculated correctly, because the source mentions both valid votes and total amount of votes. It seems pretty clear to me the difference between those numbers are the invalid votes Dees de Jong (talk) 11:22, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
