[edit]This was the last Pennsylvania gubernatorial election held on the second Tuesday in October.
Some sources (e.g. Dubin (United States Gubernatorial Elections, 1776-1860: The Official Results by State and County, 2003), Glashan (American Governors and Gubernatorial Elections, 1775-1978, 1979), and Kallenbach and Kallenbach (American State Governors, 1776-1976, vol. 1, 1977)) state that this election was held on October 8.
Contemporary sources make clear the election was held on October 8:
- 1873 Pennsylvania Senate Journal
- The Forest Republican (Tionesta, PA), 2 October 1872: "Remember the State and County election next Tuesday."
- The Cambria Freeman (Ebensburg, PA), 25 October 1872: "…as Buckalew received on the 8th day of the present month."
