Names of candidates
[edit]The following sources all record that the name of the Federalist candidate was William Greene, not James Greene as OurCampaigns records:
- Dubin, United States Gubernatorial Elections, 1776-1860: The Official Results by State and County, 2003
- Glashan, American Governors and Gubernatorial Elections, 1775-1978, 1979
- Kallenbach and Kallenbach, American State Governors, 1776-1976, vol. 1, 1977
- A New Nation Votes
- Parker, Manual for the use of the General Assembly of the State of Rhode Island, 1914
- The National Intelligencer of 19 May 1802
It is not clear if this William Greene is the same person as the governor of that name (1778-1786). A New Nation Votes indicates this candidate is the same as the Federalist candidate for Congress in 1796.
