Does John Newton belong here?
[edit]Newton wrote the hymn "Amazing Grace" but did not write any music for it. He could not even have known the tune "New Britain" to which it is now usually sung, since that tune dates from after his lifetime. Gambaguru (talk) 19:18, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- Good point. The characterization "songwriter" is certainly misleading; "lyricist" would be closer to the truth. On the other hand, aren't lyricists included in many of the "in music" lists on Wikipedia? For example, Oscar Hammerstein II's birth and death dates are found in 1895 in music and 1960 in music, respectively.—Jerome Kohl (talk) 23:27, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
